Urbane Cyclist
We are a worker cooperative bicycle shop
dedicated to servicing people like ourselves–
daily commuters–the non-lingo, plain talking
individuals who use their bikes to get
around. Commuters and couriers form our
core clientele amongst recumbent riders,
touring cyclists, users of folding bikes and
builders of alternative bikes and trailers.

The Harmonized Sales Tax
On July 1st the B.C. Provincial Sales Tax (PST) will be eliminated. On that date, you’ll see the 7% B.C. rate join the 5%
Goods and Services Tax (GST) to give us a total HST rate of 12%. This is the lowest in Canada.
But what does this mean to the cycling industry? The tax on bicycles and bicycle related products will be increasing. Previously,
bicycles, most bicycle parts, and some accessories such as helmets have been subject only to GST at 5%. Now all
those products will be subject to a 12% HST.
On the other hand, what this may mean is the transportation plan may budget for the next steps in improving and expanding
our cycling transportation network to meet the needs of our growing population and many visitors.

Asama Bicycles and Buying a Canadian Bicycle Brand
Thanks for visiting the Cycling News!
You’re buying a new bicycle, and at the same time want to help the B.C economy.
It’s real simple! Here’s how!
Asama Bicycles has proudly been a Richmond based company selling bikes to B.C. stores since 1986. Chances are you
have owned one of the lines we have sold in the past: Kuwahara bicycles, Asama Bicycles, Rockline Bicycles.
We are a local family business, who not only distributes bikes in Canada, but manufactures these bikes at our very own
production facilities overseas. We have made millions of bikes, both under our own brand and for a variety of companies
around the world.
We stand behind our product 110 percent to ensure that your bicycle continually adds to your quality of life.
We sell a quality line of bicycles through trusted independent bicycle dealers, beginning at $300 dollars for adults. We have
a great selection of kid’s bikes as well.
You buy more locally, you spend more locally, a sound principle for supporting your community, as well as your province
and your country.
